These open group lessons run three times per week from May-September. This group is for beginner’s, children aged 12+ are welcome but under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult in the lesson. Our aim is to boost your confidence and give you all the knowledge to get you started on your surfing journey! Maximum group size of 8 so reserve your required number of spaces by booking! For under 12’s, you can book a private lesson or email us for other options.
Booking Process:
To book on, please email us on laneez1999@gmail.com and we will add your name to the register for the particular session you wish to attend. This is a great option and much cheaper than a private lesson. For these sessions, you can pay on the day when you arrive, cash or card. The minimum number of people required to run a session is 3 people. If you book on and the minimum amount of people is not met, you will be offered the same session but at the cost of a private lesson. The cost for these beginner group sessions is £25 per person for 1 hour and includes a board and wetsuit hire in the price. You can also keep the equipment afterwards to carry on practicing. These sessions are the same price as if you were to just rent the equipment so essentially, you are getting an instructor at no extra cost.
We hope you can join us! If you have any questions at all, just get in touch!
FAQ – Open Group Lesson
What ability is this club for?
These lessons are for beginners. The group will be small (maximum 8 people). Children aged 12+ are welcome but if they are under 16yrs old, they must be accompanied by an adult in the lesson.
When are the sessions?
These sessions will be every Saturday from May – September and also on a Tuesday and Thursday daytime during the summer holidays. Please click on the link above to download the timetable for Summer 2023.
How do I book a space?
Email us at laneez1999@gmail.com. Let us know how many of you there are and which session you would like to join and we will add you to the register for it 🙂 We have a maximum number of 8 spaces and will require 4 spaces to be filled to run the session. If the spaces are not filled, you will be offered the opportunity to use the slot as a private lesson instead.
How much does it cost and do you have to commit to all the sessions?
The cost is £25 per person. You can join in on as many lessons as you like.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring your own board / wetsuit if you have one and want to use it, otherwise we have all the kit you will need. It is helpful to arrive with your costume on under your clothes as we have limited changing room facilities. Other than that, you will just need to bring some water, a towel and some dry clothes.
What are the ages that attend?
We have all ages that want to learn to surf in these groups. Children aged 12 and over can attend but under 16’s will need to be accompanied in the lesson by an adult.
Who will look after us, are the instructors qualified?
All surf instructors are DBS checked and have experience in first aid. The lead instructors have also undergone lead safeguarding training. All staff are qualified surf coaches in surf coaching and lifeguarding.
What facilities will I have access to?
We have a portaloo toilet and a changing room on site. There is only one changing room so it is recommended to bring towels to change with.
What happens if there are adverse weather conditions and the session is cancelled?
If the beach is ‘red-flagged’ by the lifeguards on duty (usually due to storms / lightening / fog etc), or the instructors feel the conditions are too dangerous, we will cancel the session with as much warning as possible. We aim to cancel any sessions with at least 1 day notice. We will aim to give more notice but this will depend on the forecast. We will discuss the forecast with you and chat about alternative availability.
What equipment is included?
All equipment is included including wetsuits and surfboards. We have wetsuits for all sizes from XXS child to XXL adults. We also have surfboards for different abilities and conditions. If you have your own wetsuits and surfboards, you are welcome to bring these with you to use or if you arrive and your own equipment isn’t suitable, we will recommend something different for you to use to suit your ability and the conditions.
What are the teaching ratio’s?
The maximum ratio we work to is 1 instructor to 8 students which is in line with the governing body guidance.
